In what doesn’t count as the biggest surprise of the century, Gustavo Dudamel has extended his contract as Los Angeles Philharmonic music director through the 2018-2019 season, which will the orchestra’s centennial season.
Dudamel, who turned age 30 last month, began his tenure with the LAPO last season with a five-year contract. His first season-and-a-half have been filled with excitement both in performances and the Phil’s enhanced education efforts, such as its Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA).
