Dr. Sherwin Sloan, who retired early as an ophthalmologist to pursue an obsession that bestowed another title on him — leader of the "Ringheads," a nickname for devoted followers of Richard Wagner's four-opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen — has died at age 72.
The life of Sloan, founder of the Wagner Society of Southern California, will be celebrated on Sunday, June 13 at 5:15 p.m. in the LA Opera’s fifth floor ballroom in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The event will follow a performance of Siegfried, part of the LA Opera Ring cycle.
